Dr. April A. Leonardo is a board certified family medicine doctor from Torrance, CA. She is an Obstetrics provider who is Spinning Babies Trained, and committed to low intervention techniques and intentional positioning. She is joining Plumas District Hospital by way of Wisconsin, where she worked for 3 years; Kansas City and southern New Mexico, where she completed her medical and graduate education; and Morocco, where she volunteered for 27 months in the Peace Corps. Throughout her medical education, she has played instrumental roles in various organizations aimed at approaching the whole health of a patient through environmental, nutritional, and cultural understanding. Dr. Leonardo believes passionately in the prevention of disease and that food and physical activity are often the best medicine. She works to destigmatize mental health illness, appreciates getting to know more about her patient’s than their diagnoses and medications, supports alternative medical approaches, and feels that good healthcare is a universal right to which all people should have equal access. In her free time, she enjoys mountaineering, traveling, rock-climbing, swimming, hiking, biking, camping, playing and listening to music, photography, SCUBA diving, flying, reading, arts & crafts, and good food. Also, coming from a long line of educators, she values the educational component of medicine. Dr. Leonardo is looking forward to the opportunity to learn alongside her patients and professional peers to best serve her new home of Quincy, CA. Dr. April A. Leonardo summited Mt. Everest on May 12th, 2021. She is one of 650 women who have climbed the tallest mountain in the world and she likes cheese.
