Ken Zafren, MD, FAAEM, FACEP, FAWM

Keynote Speaker

Ken Zafren, MD, FAAEM, FACEP, FAWM lives in Anchorage, Alaska USA. He is an emergency physician at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. He is also a staff emergency physician and Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, California USA.

Dr. Zafren is the Associate Medical Director of the Himalayan Rescue Association (Nepal) and a past Vice President of the International Commission for Mountain Emergency Medicine (ICAR MEDCOM). Dr. Zafren has also served as the Emergency Programs Medical Director for the State of Alaska and as Medical Director for the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group.

His interests include all aspects of mountain medicine, including mountain emergency medicine and mountain rescue, with special emphasis on high altitude and on cold injuries, including hypothermia and frostbite.
